Do you know about mother tatoos ? A tattoo is a kind of body modification, created by inserting ink, either indelible or temporary, in to the dermis covering of your skin to change the pigment.

The word tattoo, or tattow in the 18th century, is a loanword from the Polynesian phrase tatau, signifying "to write". The Oxford British Dictionary provides etymology of tattoo as "In 18th c. tattaow, tattow. From Polynesian (Samoan, Tahitian, Tongan, etc.) tatau. In Marquesan, tatu." Prior to the importation of the Polynesian expression, the practice of tattooing have been described in the Western world as painting, scarring, or staining.

This is not to be lost with the origins of the word for the armed forces drumbeat or performance -- see armed forces tattoo. In this case, the English phrase tattoo is derived from the Dutch term taptoe (OED).

The first written reference to the word tattoo (or tatau), shows up in the journal of Joseph Banks (24 Feb 1743 - 19 June 1820), the naturalist aboard Captain Cook's dispatch the HMS Endeavour: "I shall now mention just how they make themselves indelibly, each of them is so marked by their humour or disposition".

The term "tattoo" was brought to Europe by the explorer Adam Cook, when he came back in 1769 from his first voyage to Tahiti and New Zealand. In his narrative of the voyage, he refers to an operation called "tattaw".

Tattoo fans might make reference to tattoos as "printer ink", "items", "pores and skin art", "tattoo art", "tats", or "work"; to the creators as "tattoo artists", "tattooers", or "tattooists"; and places where they work as "tattoo shops", studios" "tattoo, or "tattoo parlors".

Mainstream free galleries carry exhibitions of both custom and normal tattoo designs such as Beyond Epidermis, at the Museum of Croydon. Copyrighted tattoo designs that are mass-produced and sent to tattoo music artists are known as "display", a notable occasion of industrial design. Flash linens are prominently viewed in many tattoo parlors for the purpose of providing both ideas and ready-made tattoo images to customers.

The Japanese term irezumi means "insertion of ink" and often means tats using tebori, the original Japanese side method, a Western-style machine, or for that matter, any approach to tattooing using insertion of printer ink. The most frequent term used for traditional Japanese tattoo designs is Horimono. Japanese may use the term "tattoo" to signify non-Japanese styles of tattooing.
